Septic Systems

Most septic systems are anaerobic systems. This means that they don't use oxygen to break down the waste. The solid waste enters the septic tank and forms a layer on top of the liquid. All the solid waste breaks down into a liquid under this layer. The liquid then travels to the leach field where it is absorbed into the ground. Some systems are aerobic.

This means that they use oxygen to break down the waste into a liquid. This is done by introducing air into the tank. The waste then breaks down into a liquid and travels to the leach field where it is absorbed into the ground.

Problems and solutions:

The most common problem with septic systems is the leach field. The leach field is typically a series of perforated pipes or other devices that allow the effluent (waste water from the septic tank) to be absorbed into the ground over a large area. Over time, the soil in the field becomes clogged and the effluent backs up into the tank and ultimately your yard or house. Sometimes, pumping the tank will allow the leach field to rest and dry out. This is usually a temporary fix. Under certain conditions we are able to clean or regenerate the field. Other times it is necessary to replace the field.

White Knight Systems:

The White Knight system is designed to convert an anaerobic system to an aerobic system. The septic tank must be in sound condition. This system may be installed if conditions allow. If it can be installed, the cost is much less than an entire replacement of the septic system.

Pumping - How often (we don't pump):

Unfortunately at The Plumber, we don't pump septic tanks. It is the only thing we don't do with septic systems. Based on a typical system of a 1,000 gallon septic tank and the proper amount of leach field for the soil conditions, the average time between pumping is 3 to 5 years. Based on your specific conditions, your system may require pumping more or less often.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE YOUR SEPTIC TANK IS, WE CAN ELECTRONICLY LOCATE IT FOR YOU.

Water Pumps

  • Jet pumps

  • Submersible pumps

How they work:

A jet pump is typically located in the basement of your home and draws the water from your well and distributes it throughout your home. A submersible water pump is located in the well and pushes the water from the well, to your house and distributes it throughout your home.

Which is best?

The answer to this question depends on your situation. For most homes, we recommend using a submersible water pump. It is quiet, requires less maintenance and is simpler in its operation.

Sump & Sewage Pumps

  • Sump pumps

  • Effluent pumps

  • Sewage pumps

How they work

All three of these pumps operate with their pumping apparatus in a basin or well and pushes, or ejects the waste to another location.

Water Heaters

  • Tank style

  • Tankless

  • Indirect

How they work

A tank style is independent and only heats domestic water. It keeps a tank of water hot all the time weather you use it or not. A tank less water heater will heat water only when you need it. As long as you have water, gas and electricity, you will never run out of hot water, and you only use what you heat.

Toilets

  • Wash down

  • Siphon jet

How they work

The wash down operates just like it sounds. A volume of water comes down from the tank and washes down the waste. A siphon jet is similar but it has some help from a jet of water that pushes water down stream and creates a siphon that sucks the waste down the drain.

Toilets can clog and overflow. They can leak from the base at the floor. They can run water constantly. They may not flush completely. Our training and experience can diagnose and solve these problems.

Drain Cleaning

  • Problems and solutions

  • Methods of cleaning

We have many methods to open a clogged drain line. Cabling is the most common. we have several different styles of machines for this. High pressure water jetting is another method. Not only can it open the drain but it also cleans the inside of the pipe which may prevent it from clogging again. We can also camera the inside of your drain which can help identify the cause of the clog. Electronic line location can then be used to find where the problem is.
